Reverend James "Nolan" Eldridge, 77, of Columbus, GA died Monday, September 27, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Parkhill Cemetery with Reverend Vernon Prather officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Reverend Eldridge was born March 12, 1933 in Geneva County, AL son of the late Zilphy Register Eldridge and James Jefferson Eldridge. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in Korea and received two silver battle stars. He was the original founder and Pastor of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Later was Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Talbotton, GA. He was a former manager of the Piggly Wiggly Store for many years and had opened several community Centers for Youth.
He was preceded in death by his brother, J.P. Eldridge, daughter, Jennifer Lynn Eldridge, and grandson, Christopher Eldridge.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Cook Eldridge of Columbus, GA, daughters, Vivian Blacklock (Gary) of Adairsville, GA and Karen Roy (David) of Aiken County, SC, sons, Dwight Eldridge (Lisa) of Columbus, GA, Ricky Eldridge of Columbus, GA, John Eldridge (Rhonda) of Marion County, GA, Phillip Eldridge (Bonnie) of Columbus, GA and Rodney Eldridge (Niki) of Midland, GA, brother, Earl Eldridge (Sallie) of Shiloh, GA, twenty one grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
