Ilse Ruth Ash, 85, of Columbus, Georgia died June 8th, 2016 at Gentiva Hospice.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 11, 2016 at McMullen Funeral Home with Pastor Buddy Lamb officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ash was born March 12, 1931 in what was Poland, now Germany. The daughter of Rudolph and Rosa Schock, Mrs. Ash grew up in Germany and met her husband, CWO3 William "Bill" West Ash on a blind date in 1954. They were married January 16, 1959 in Stuttgart and later moved to Columbus, GA with orders for Ft. Benning. She volunteered at Muscogee Manor for 35 years and loved to help anyone who needed it. She generously gave to charities and to her church, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic, where she was a member for over 50 years.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Retired CWO3 Bill Ash and her sister, Irmgard.
Survivors include her daughter, Debby (Tim) of Hamilton, GA. Mrs. Ash often called Tim her son. Other survivors included, niece and great-niece, Gabriele and Stefanie Riebe of Ostelsheim, Germany, four grandchildren; Mike Moring, Matthew Moring (Christina), West Graham, Zack Graham (Julie), 7 great-grandchildren, and lastly by her dear friend and "walking partner", Catherine Shores.
