Ida was born October 21, 1930 in Tampa, FL to the late Gabriel and Maria Meabe Gijon, immigrants from Spain. She attended Hillsboro High School in Tampa, FL and met the love of her life, Castor (Cas) Mendez-Vigo during her high school years. The two were married in 1950 and shared a wonderful life together until the passing of Cas in 2014. During their time together Cas served in the United States Air Force rising to the rank of Colonel with Ida by his side providing a loving home and support while raising their three children. Their time in the service afforded her the opportunity to travel and live in many locations in the US as well as Spain.
Ida not only raised three children but became a dental hygienist, practicing at Spring Valley Dental Group in O’Fallon, Illinois. Following retirement to Florida, Ida took up numerous hobbies including golf, volunteering as a Pink Lady, running the hospital gift shop and painting. The couple moved to Columbus, Georgia in 2006 and were one of the founding members of the community at Spring Harbor at Green Island. They enjoyed their time at Spring Harbor making many new friends and enjoying all that Columbus had to offer.
