Reverend Hugh Shirah, 77, of Phenix City , Alabama died Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Columbus Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 3:00 pm. Dr. Edwin "Buddy" Cooper, Reverend Randy Comer, and Reverend Mark Sasser will be officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. The address is 3874 Gentian Boulevard, Columbus, Georgia 31907. A private interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens in Phenix City, Alabama.
Reverend Shirah was born March 8, 1938 in Columbus, Georgia; son of the late Homer Shirah and Helen Graham Shirah. He retired from the South Georgia United Methodist Church Conference, having served in several churches in the South Georgia United Methodist Conference. He was the former pastor of Watoola United Methodist Church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Parker Shirah and his brothers Charles Shirah and Dewayne Shirah.
Survivors include his son, Hudson Edward "Eddie" Shirah of Phenix City, Alabama; daughter LeAnn Shirah Best of Smiths Station, Alabama and six grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Methodist Children's Home South Georgia, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204.
