Herbert Calvin Hughes, 72, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, September 3, 2017 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Elder Clay Coleman officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Hughes was born July 25, 1945 in Midland City, AL son of the late Royce Lee Hughes and Mary Allice Summers Hughes. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and later worked at Tom's Foods. Mr. Hughes loved to fish and play "pinochle", the card game. He was also a member of the Fountain City Twillers.
Survivors include his loving wife, Maria "Mary" Langunero Hughes of Columbus, GA, daughter, Lisa Marie Hughes Rogers (Steve) of Thomaston, GA, sons, Thomas L. Hughes of Columbus, GA, John Phillip Hughes of San Antonio, TX and Michael L. Hughes of Columbus, GA, sister, Martha Sue Ferrell (Charles) of Midland, GA, and 3 grandchildren, Joseph Hughes, Teagan Hughes, and Ansley Owens.
