Henry “Oz” Osborne White

Henry Osborne White “Oz” as he was affectionately known passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2023 at the age of 97 at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus, Georgia. He courageously faced the battle of aging and life’s challenges always with a smile. His kinds, caring and thoughtful ways will always remain in our hearts.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday January 5, 2024 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd, Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Jason Wade officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery.

Oz was born in Columbus, GA on September 6, 1926 to Elsie Whitton White and Candler White. Oz was first employed at the Columbus Post Office in 1944.  He served in the Army Air Corp Reserves at the age of 17 and called to active duty in 1945.  With an honorable discharge, Oz returned to work at the Columbus Post Office, eventually being appointed as Postal Inspector in 1955.  He continued to proudly serve in the U.S. Postal Service at various locations and in high- level Inspector positions until his retirement in 1978.

He married the love of his life, Betty Ann Batastini in 1947. They had two children, Sandra White and Michael White, all who preceded him in death. He is survived by many nephews and nieces.  The family wishes to thank his very close friends who have been a joy and comfort in Oz’s life over the years.
