Helen Matthews Sellars

Helen Matthews Sellars, 86, of Columbus, GA passed away Sunday, December 25, 2022.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Preston City Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

Helen was born January 21, 1936 in Preston, GA to the late H.T. Matthews and Elva Sherman Matthews. She attended high school in Preston, GA and moved to Ft. Valley, GA after high school where she met and married Bobby M. Mason. They had one daughter, Lisa Mason Fort. Helen worked at the Bank of Ft. Valley and then many years with the Department of Agriculture (ASCS) in Peach and Crisp Counties. She later met and married Leron Sellars. After his death in 2012, she moved to Covenant Woods Retirement Community in Columbus, GA. She enjoyed clogging and square dancing in her younger days. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years in Columbus. Helen was a member of Living Grace Methodist Church in Columbus, GA. Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Leron Sellars.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Fort (Sib) of Lumpkin, GA, granddaughters, Whitney Knight (Joel) of Kathleen, GA, Samantha Fort of Lumpkin, GA, great-grandchildren, Sibley Paul Knight and Sadie Caroline Knight.
