Hazel Juanita "Nita" Scroggins Phillips, 87, of Columbus, GA died Friday, September 7, 2018 at Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM September 11 ,2018 at the Turner Chapel of St Luke United Methodist Church with Rev. Cindy Garrard officiating. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA
Nita was born July 24, 1931 in West Point, GA daughter of the late Lee and Clara Reeves Scroggins. She was a graduate of UGA and retired as a teacher from the Muscogee County School District. Nita was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church for over 60 years and a member of "DAR", Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of the Gracious Ladies of Columbus, charter member of Green Island Country Club, 9-hole golf group, and the Artist Guild.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Joseph Phillips.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Durden (Mike) of Columbus, GA, grandchildren, Chandler Durden and Christina Durden of Columbus, GA, brother, Lee Scroggins, Jr. (Alma), sister, Ernestine Gamble (Harold), several nieces and nephews, caretakers, Walter and Denise Gates, and her golf friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church 1104 2nd Ave, Columbus, GA 31901.
