Harvey Sutherland, Jr., 83, of Midland, GA died Thursday, March 10, 2016 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, March 14, 2016 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Chaplain Steve Croft officiating. A private interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Sutherland was born March 15, 1932 in Screven, GA son of the late Harvey Sutherland, Sr. and Floye Louise Poppell Hargraves. He retired as a Staff Sergeant after 22 years in the U.S. Army. He was also a mason and loved hunting and fishing. Mr. Sutherland loved being with his family and friends especially his "Burger King" buddies.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kelly Butler.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mona Sutherland of Midland, GA, daughters, Helen Powell (Milton) of Cataula, GA and Frances Bonner (Fred) of Columbus, GA, seven grandchildren, Bryan Hatcher (Kimberly), John Michael Powell (Crystal), Christopher Watson, Haley Powell, Michael Harmon, Jr. (Elsie) and Rachel Bonner, eight great grandchildren, Kendall, Landen, Adam, Sophia, Jackson, Jordan, Annah and Rhett, and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial contributions to Gentiva Hospice 100 Brookstone Centre Columbus, GA 31904 or the American Cancer Society 233 12th St. #710 Columbus, GA 31901.
