Harry Allen Matthews

Harry Allen Matthews of Columbus, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2022.  Harry was born on March 21, 1946, to Thomas Judson, Sr. and Lillie Corene Matthews.

His first job was at Columbus Bicycle & Lawn Mower Shop in Columbus, Georgia, where he began honing his skills. Incredibly gifted and extraordinarily mechanically inclined, he spent his life demonstrating those skills in all his pursuits. Whether for work or for those he loved, he rarely met a repair too tough to handle.  In his early teens and adulthood, he was known to build his own, exceptionally fast cars, and loved demonstrating just how fast they were to anyone who wanted to race him.  He told stories of those cars and encounters, often.  He enjoyed reminiscing.  Harry attended North Highland Church in Columbus, Georgia.  He loved his family, friends, and animals, but most importantly, he loves Jesus!

During his marriage to Brenda Matthews (Melton), they had four children:  Lisa Goble (Brad) of Fernandina Beach, FL, Allen Matthews (Dawn) of Midland, GA, Kent Matthews (Angela) of LaGrange, GA, and Kevin Matthews (Ginger) of Cataula, GA.  He is the grandfather of three:  Crystal Matthews, Erin Graham (Jake), and Reagan Matthews, and the great-grandfather of three:  Fynleigh Graham, Luna Matthews, and Millie Graham.  Harry is survived by his sister, Cathy Brinson of South Carolina.  He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Tommy Matthews, and sister, Sue Holland.
