Harry D. Holmes, 87 of Columbus, Georgia died Sunday, January 09, 2022 at Grady Healthcare System of Atlanta.
A Service of Remembrance will be held 2:00 PM Friday, January 14, 2022 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd Columbus, Georgia 31907. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home.
Mr. Holmes was born September 30, 1934 in Cullman, Alabama son of the late Thaley Odis and Lois Oden Holmes. Mr. Holmes was a U.S. Army veteran and retired after 35 years as an accountant with Civil Service at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He loved hunting and fishing and was very creative in many ways. He enjoyed building and tinkering around his home. Mr. Holmes was a loving and caring husband and was a amazing caregiver to his wife Kathryn. Harry was loved and respected by all that knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years Kathryn Alice Holmes of Columbus, Georgia; step-children, Jane Ellen Freeman and her husband Michael of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Jill Elizabeth Elkington of Crystal River, Florida and Alice Ann Kubesch of Columbus, Georgia, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
