Harold E. "Uncle Harold" Rathel , 70, of Columbus, GA died Thursday, April 24, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM Monday, April 28, 2014 at Rivertown Church, 6953 Schomburg Road. Columbus, GA. 31909 with Pastor Don Edeker and Pastor David Rathel officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA. 31907.
Mr. Rathel was born November 7, 1943 in Donalsonville, Georgia, son of the late Jay and Ethel Rathel. He was a graduate of Jordan High School Class of 1963 and was the owner of "Harold Rathel Nursery and Landscaping". "Uncle Harold" as he was known by many, was full of life. He enjoyed NASCAR and football but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Rita McGraw, Patricia Hemmings-Gow; his brothers, Jerry Rathel and Thomas Rathel.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Anne Rathel of Columbus, GA; daughters, Debra Rathel Brennan (Jim) and Kristi Lowe (Jon) both of Columbus, GA; sons, Pastor David Rathel (Melaine) and Steve Cannon (Duang) both of Columbus, GA; and a special nephew Mark McGraw; grandchildren , Madison and Ella Brennan, and Hannah and Graham Rathel all of Columbus; a sister, Carol Rathel Mims of Clearwater Beach , FL; and sister-in-law, Patsy Rathel of Columbus, GA.
Flowers will be accepted but those who wish may make memorial contributions to Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Road Columbus, GA 31907.
