Police SGT (RET) Harold Harris, 84, of Columbus, GA died Monday, December 26, 2022 at Columbus Hospice. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 30, 2022 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Adam Churchwell officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery following the service.
Harold was born on July 16, 1938 in Columbus, Georgia, to Willie Lee and Bunie Lee Harris. He graduated from Jordan High School and attended Marine Corps recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina,and received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice before returning home to Columbus to care for his family. Harold married Glenda Proctor in 1959, and together they had three children, Rhonda, Angie, and Shelia. Harold retired as a Sergeant from the Columbus Police Department after 34 years of protecting and serving his community. He was a member of The Fraternal Order of Police
Harold was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He took good care of his family and friends. He was hard-working, dependable, and lived with great integrity.
Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Morrison; sisters, Mary Floyd and Bertha Langbehn.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Glenda Harris of Columbus, GA; daughters, Angie Nicolais of Cataula, GA; Sheila Giles (John) of Virginia; grandchildren, Lacey Morrison (Dave Hoffman) of Washington, D.C., Barton Morrison of Columbus, GA, Madison Kurth (Nate) of Duluth, GA, Alex Nicolais of Cataula, GA, Harris Giles of Virginia, Alanna Nicolais of Lawrenceville, GA; sister, Dorothy Yoder (Buddy) of Phenix City, AL; sister-in-law, Rita Milstead; brother-in-law, Ned Milstead; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The family wishes to thank the healthcare workers and staff at Columbus Hospice, Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, and St. Francis Hospital for caring for Harold.
