Hale Thomas, 84 of Columbus died Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Vista Care Hospice at Franciscan Woods.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Parkhill Cemetery with Chaplain Mark Chandler officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA.
Mr. Thomas was born January 19, 1927 in Columbus, GA son of the late Beulah Capitola Thomas and Enoch Elijah Thomas. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served during World War II. He retired after 30 years from Tom Houston Foods and was also co-owner of Thomas House of Antiques for 10 years. He was a life long member of Rose Hill Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Secretary, and was involved in Mission Trips and Backyard Bible Clubs. His hobbies were bowling, woodworking and he was an avid photographer. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor, warm friendly smile, great grandfatherly advice and good listener. Most of all he was an avid Georgia Fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years JoAnn O. Thomas, brother, E. E. Thomas, Jr and sister, Anne Spence.
Survivors include his daughter, Lynn McMichael (Bud) and son, Jay Thomas (Lisa); sister, Ellen Newman (Raymond) and brother Jimmy Thomas (Nancy); grandchildren, Sarah Thomas, Jessi Thomas, Laura Thomas, Lindsay McMichael and Madison McMichael; sister-in-law, Mary Edwards (Henry) and several nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial donations to Vista Care Hospice, 100 Brookstone Ctr. Pkwy, Columbus, GA 31904.
