Mrs. Gloria P. Preston of Columbus passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Midtown Medical Center after a brief illness.
Graveside services will be held at Parkhill Cemetery on Monday, October 14, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tim Jones of Britt David Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday 3:00-5:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Preston was born in Pensacola, FL on January 29, 1927, to parents Harold and Maude Daw, and lived most of her life in Columbus, GA. Mrs. Preston was a member of Britt David Baptist Church, and was a member of the Guardettes of the Columbus-Ft. Benning Shrine Club. She loved playing Bridge on Tuesdays and Fridays with the Foxy Vou's Bridge Club at the Fox Community Center. She was employed for a number of years at Sears, and was retired from BankSouth.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband H. P. Perry, father of her children. She was also preceded in death by husband James H. Kornegay, and sisters Charlotte Rasmussen of Pensacola, FL and Brenda Richmond of Virginia Beach, VA.
Left to cherish her precious memories are her husband Brady Preston of Columbus, daughter Margie Perry Fares (Jon) of Savannah, GA, son H. Alan Perry (Pat) of Columbus, stepson Charles R. Perry (Donna) of Jacksonville, FL, stepdaughter Cynthia P. Collins (Leyn) of Box Springs, GA, stepson Steve K. Preston (Nora) of Buena Vista, GA, stepson Ted A. Preston (Cindy) of Buena Vista, GA, sisters Rita Kohli (Dennis) and Joyce Porras (John), brothers John Williams (Linda) and Don Williams (Denise) all of Pensacola, FL, brother-in-law Don Richmond of Virginia Beach, VA, grandson W. Preston Powers (Diana) of Brunswick, GA, granddaughter Michelle Fares Dubberly (Andrew) of Savannah, GA, grandson Cody A. Perry of Columbus, grandson Elliot J. Vogt (Bethany) of Columbus, granddaughter Maria Collins Allesch (Brian) of Ft. Drum, NY, grandson Robert Collins of Ellerslie, grandson Alan Preston (Katie) of Columbus, granddaughter Christy Preston of Buena Vista, GA, granddaughter Misty Preston Dykes (J.C.) of LaGrange, GA, and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that any contributions to honor her memory be made to Britt David Baptist Church, the Columbus-Ft. Benning Shrine Club's Crippled Children Fund, or to a favorite charity.
