After almost 72 years living here with us and tirelessly serving everyone she could, Gloria Jean Bigham transferred her residence to the Kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, November 17 at 6:40am. Some 2000-plus years ago, the Master Builder, Jesus Christ, began construction on her eternal home beyond the clouds. It is certain to be a magnificent structure, as He offers a guarantee that nothing has ever even been imagined by human minds that compares to what He is building for those who love Him. The property has no mortgages, liens, taxes, or insurance and is completely debt-free. Utilities have been paid for eternity. Worries, pain, stress and tears are not allowed in her new neighborhood, so she will certainly be resting peacefully there. Her new mansion lies within a gated community where all of her neighbors are saints, and she will gladly meet you just inside the entrance if you also have a personal relationship with the Builder.
Jean met Jesus as a child and served Him all of her life, most recently as a member of Second Baptist Church in Columbus, GA. She served Him until her very last breath, telling everyone she could about His grace and love. Although she is certainly celebrating her new life with Robert Bigham, her husband who preceded her in death, there are hundreds of people remaining here who will sorely miss her. Among those are her three children, Donna Osborn (husband, Lee), Angie Viggins (husband, Johnnie), and Jody McArdle (wife, Leslie), her sister, Debbie Ellison, her brother, Curt Lisle (wife, Charlene), her three step-children, her eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren, her closest friend, Pat Simons, her four-legged daughter, Ginger, and countless other family members, friends, colleagues, co-workers, and fellow church members.
A visitation service will be held at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., on Monday evening from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The ceremony to celebrate her life, so graciously shared with us, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery.
She loved flowers, but as an alternative, please consider making a contribution to The American Cancer Society, Serenity Hospice Care (2901 Warm Springs Road, Columbus, GA), any no-kill animal shelter, or simply adopt a pet.
Her family would like to take this opportunity to thank her many friends for their love, prayers, and support.
Those so desiring can sign the online guest registry at www.mcmullenfuneralhome .com.
