Mrs. Gertrud Hancock, aged 83, of Columbus, Ga, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024, surrounded by family.
Funeral Mass will be held 11:30 AM, Thursday, July 25, 2024 in the sanctuary at Holy Family with Father Ben Dallas officiating. A Rosary will be held 5:00 PM, Wednesday July 24, 2024 with a visitation following until 7:00PM in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Ga 31907. A private interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.
Gertrud (Trudy) was born on June 11, 1941, to the late Josef and Josephine Pickl in Karlsbad, Czechoslovakia. She was the wife of David Leon Hancock of Columbus, GA. Gertrud (Trudy) retired as District Manager at Star Laundry at Fort Benning, GA. She retired to enjoy her hobbies and spending time with family. Gertrud (Trudy) was strong-willed and stubborn at times, but she also had an enormous heart. She will be missed dearly. Her hobbies included bowling, thrift store shopping, sewing, listening to classical and German music, cooking, baking, and gardening. She was a member and loved going to church at Holy Family. Her biggest hobby was spending time with family and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, Oma, and hero.
In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by grandson Arron Hancock, and great grandson Alexander Phillip.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years: David Leon Hancock; brothers: Hans Pickl (Herta), Horst Grimm; son: Michael Hancock (Michelle); daughters: Pamela Williams (Bruce), Patricia Windell (Bill); adopted daughter: Lisa Nunn; adopted son: Eddie Wood; grandsons: Christopher Murray (Kelsey), Andrew Donaldson ( Alexis), DJ Murray (Renee), David Williams (Shelby), Tyler Murray; granddaughters: Amanda Williams (Rodney), Anna Hancock (Evan); great-grandsons: Eric, Cooper, Kane, Kholt, Maverick, Christopher Jr., Kip; great-granddaughters: Kayden, Abigail, Amelia, Baby Williams, Raegan, Hallie; and extended family and friends.
