George Calvin Ward, 90, our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, died Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Columbus Hospice House.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00AM, Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Parkhill Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Speer officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
George was born January 14, 1926 in Elsmere, KY. A unique soul, he was very funny and enjoyed life to the fullest with family and friends. He was stationed at Ft. Benning after WWII after serving in the CBI theater as a military policeman in Burma. He met and married his wife Gwen in 1950. George was Manager of Columbus Finance for 29 years. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and the Dalton Sunday School Class. He served as chaplain and Judge Advocate of his WWII CBI organization. George was most proud of his induction into the 75th Ranger Regiment Hall of Fame as an honorary Member in 1995.
Survivors other than his wife include his son, Randy Ward(Jetta) of LaGrange, GA; a daughter, Gail Durham (Dennis) of Fortson, GA; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted, but those so desiring may make memorial contributions to the Building Fund at Northside Baptist Church, 959 54th Street Columbus, GA 31904.
