George DeLamar Copelan, Sr., 72, of Pine Mountain, GA passed away Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Midtown Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 17, 2016 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Dr. Tommy Henschel and Reverend Eddie Smith officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home. Pallbearers include Charles "Bo" Rambo, Lange Taylor, Albert Lawton Mulllin, George DeLamar Copelan, III, William Lovard Lee, V, Jacob "Jake" Robert Copelan. Honorary pallbearers include Richard Berryman Mobley, Sr., James Stanford Copelan, and George Stanford Hamer.
Mr. Copelan was born January 9, 1944 to the late Henry "Jack" DeLamar Slayton and Sara "Sally" Hamer Copelan in Columbus, GA. He was an avid quail hunter, duck hunter, and fisherman. He enjoyed cooking, eating, and cherished good times spent with family, friends, and hunting with one of his special dogs named "Russ". Mr. Copelan was a proud member of Kappa Alpha fraternity at the University of Georgia, and was a devoted Bulldog fan.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jackie Copelan.
Survivors include, his loving wife, Julie Lynn Copelan of Pine Mountain, GA; son, George DeLamar Copelan, Jr. (LeAnn Short) of Hamilton, GA; daughters, Cora Copelan Lee (William, IV) of Dothan, AL, Wellsley Slayton Copelan of Pine Mountain, GA; sister-in-law, Mimi Copelan of Columbus, GA; six precious grandchildren, George DeLamar Copelan, III, Sara Ashton Copelan, Jacob "Jake" Robert Copelan, William Lovard Lee, V, Cora LaDelle Lee, and Sara Wellons Lee.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, or the Hope Lodge at Emory.
