George Franklin Belyew passed away peacefully on September 2, 2024, at Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA. Born on February 18, 1932, in Eva, TN, George's life was one marked by unwavering dedication to his loved ones and a spirited passion for life's many adventures.
George's journey began as the cherished only son of the late Frank and Mildred Belyew. George leaves behind his beloved wife, Ellen Belyew, who has been his steadfast companion for 47 years. He leaves behind 3 children, daughter Dana Belyew Rossi (Chuck), son Steve Belyew, and daughter Leigh Ann Belyew Martin (Bill).
A proud grandfather, George's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Catherine Rossi Reynolds (Justin), Charles Rossi (Steffanie), Matthew Rossi, Michael Rossi (Cassie), Heather Rossi, Will Martin, Molly Martin Beaver (Keegan), Abby Martin, Emma Martin, and Matthew Martin. His great-grandchildren: Hallie Reynolds, Harper Reynolds, and Ella Rose Beaver.
George's professional life was as robust and full as his personal one. He dedicated 39 years to a fulfilling career with Roadway Express, contributing over four decades to the trucking industry. His work ethic and commitment to excellence left an indelible mark on all who worked alongside him.
Beyond his professional achievements, George was known for his love of NASCAR and RV camping, which allowed he and Ellen to explore and enjoy the great outdoors. He was also a fixture at the local Burger King, where he and Ellen met daily with friends to share stories and laughter over breakfast. His sense of humor and ability to tell a story made him a joy to be around and a friend to all. His favorite meal to prepare for family or friends was fried catfish and hushpuppies.
In the final weeks of his life, George cried out to God and embraced Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends, but we rejoice in knowing that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."
