George Michael Agnew, 71, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Gentiva Hospice on Williams Road.

A Rosary led by Rich McDowell will be prayed for Mike at Christ the King Catholic Church in Pine Mountain, across from the main entrance to Callaway Gardens, on Sunday, July 16, at 11:45 am after the regular Sunday Mass. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Monday, July 17, by Rev. Brian O'Shaughnessy at St Anne Catholic Church, 2000 Kay Circle in Columbus. Interment will be at Parkhill Cemetery following the service.

Mike was born in Anniston, AL on September 23, 1945, son of Sgt. John Michael Agnew and Evelyn Kippen Agnew. Being an army brat he spent his childhood in places such as Alaska and Niagara Falls, but landed in Columbus. He graduated from Pacelli HS in 1964, where he learned to love football. At Columbus College, classmates elected him both President of student government and "Mr. Columbus College". At UGA, football became a passion.

An excellent lawyer and respected member of the Georgia Bar, Mike practiced law for over forty years. He found time, however, to serve as a volunteer coach of basketball, track, and cross country when his daughter and son, Beth and John, chose them at St. Anne School. He served as "Voice of the Vikings," broadcasting play-by-play at Pacelli home games. When his children became serious runners so did Mike and his wife, Kay. He kept his family and friends moving, going to road races, Athens, Disney, the Golden Isles, New Orleans, etc.

Survivors include his wife Kay Hafner Agnew; daughter Beth Beaudoin, (Lenny), and grandsons Leo and Charlie; son John Agnew (Jenn), and grandsons Mason and Kip; his sister Patricia Ann DeWaard (Jerry) of Britt, IA; niece Eve (Kent) Lemon and their children John, Jake, and Nora of Flower Mound, TX; niece Rose (Randy) Wangen and their children Sophia and Sam of New Hope, MN; niece Shelly (Garrett) Crandall and great-nieces Ellyn and Gwyn of West Union, IA; Nephew Alex DeWaard of Algona, IA;
