Fred Slaughter, Jr, 78 of Phenix City, AL died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at his home.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be held 2:30 P.M., Friday, November 30, 2012 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Rev. Lynn McManious officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Colonial Funeral Home, 613 14th St. Phenix City, AL.
Mr. Slaughter was born April 23, 1934 in Columbus, GA son of the late Fred Slaughter, Sr. and Anna Lee Wood Slaughter. He proudly served in the U. S. Air Force and the U. S. Navy during the Korean War, Cuban Missile Crisis and the beginning of the Viet Nam War. He had worked for the Columbus Police Department and was also the Chief of Police of Shiloh, GA. He had also worked for Jay & Gene Dodge Dealership. He was a member of the Mason Columbia Lodge #7 and the Scottish Rite.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy A. Regan; granddaughter, Kerri Davis Hackmer and brother, A. C. Slaughter.
Survivors include his children, Linda S. Edge (Bobby) of Phenix City, AL; Freddie Wayne Slaughter (Edith) of Phenix City, AL, Jack Fisher (Annie) of Oklahoma, Mary Ruth Slaughter of Oklahoma, Martha S. Vareha (James) of Ft. Pierce, FL, Samuel Waynne Slaughter of Columbus, GA and Walter Clifton Slaughter (Christy) Michigan; 24 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Barbara Slaughter, 2 nieces and special friend, Dean Herring.
