Frances Kathleen Steed 77, of Box Springs, Ga. died Thursday at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday August 29, 2011 at McMullen Funeral Home with Mr. Greg Lawrence officiating. A private burial will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Bvld. Columbus.
Mrs. Steed was born July 21, 1934 in Runcorn, England daughter of the late Herbert Henry Harold and Isabella Lane. She was a life long resident of the Columbus area and was the Manager of the Special Enforcement Animal Control Division for the City of Columbus. Her service to this community exceeds her frequent awards and recognition. In 1990, she was named Exceptional Animal Control Advocate of the year by the Southern Animal Control Association. In 1999 she received the City Managers Managerial Award and in 2007 she received the Muscogee County Humane Society Sid Sacerdote Award for her service to companion animals everywhere.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Thomas Joseph Steed and her sister Jean Wedall.
Survivors include one daughter Kathy McCarley (Tim) of Box Springs, Ga. two sons Tommy Steed (Connie) of Spartanburg S.C. and Bart Steed (Cindy) of Columbus, GA; sister, Dora Motos of Columbus, GA; five grandchildren, Chris, Bobby, Stephanie, W.L. and Patrick; four great grandchildren, Sarah, J.T., Camden and Avery and her beloved pets.
