Frances Louise Sheffield, 91, Midland, GA passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at home while surrounded by family.
Funeral Services will be held graveside at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road Columbus, GA 31907. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, May 2, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Sheffield, or "Maw" as family and friends called her, was born on December 3, 1922 in Parrot, GA to the late Mr. and Mrs. William Andrew Hancock. She married the late W. Grady Sheffield in 1941 and lived most of her life in Columbus, GA. She was a dedicated sister, wife, and mother who spent her career in the grocery business, retiring as a bookkeeper from Big Star. She spent the last 39 years living with her daughter and son-in-law and serving as the family matriarch. Many of those years were spent in the kitchen, cooking for her family and baking wedding and holiday cakes for many. Her strength, generosity and loving spirit was an inspiration to all her family and friends.
She is survived by her sister Eugenia Senn and family of Dawson, GA, her daughter Nancy (Bucky) Barefoot of Midland, GA, sons John (Sandy) Sheffield of Hamilton, GA and Richard (Sandi) Sheffield of Waverly Hall, GA, grandchildren Wymon (Laurie) Barefoot, Keith (Wendy) Barefoot, Amy (Scott) Hughes, Angela (Jack) Crabtree, Josh (Kathy) Sheffield, great-grandchildren, Brad (Erin) Barefoot, Austin Barefoot, Tony (Vanessa) Sheffield, Jesse Sheffield, Morgan Sheffield, and Trevor Sheffield, and great-great-grandchild Brooklyn Elizabeth Barefoot.
