Frances Mott was born December 10, 1922 in Columbus, Georgia, daughter of the late William and Florence Voight, and she was raised by her beloved grandmother, Marion Voight. A few of the words that describe Frances Mott are Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, loving, faithful, prayerful, generous, giving, humble, happy, and a joy to her family and community.
She married Howard Mott, her childhood friend, on July 18, 1942, while he was serving in the U.S. Army. When he proposed, he asked if she could live on $250 a month. She told him she could, but she wanted to know what he would live on. He also told her that he would "try her out for 50 years, and if she worked out okay, he would keep her." They were married for 64 years prior to Howard's death in 2006.
Mrs. Mott worked along side her husband, Howard, shortly after the founding of the Valley Rescue Mission in 1964, until their retirement in 1989. She also served as Camp Director for Camp JOY for 14 years; was the Director of Women's Work, Social Services, and worked in the Mission's administrative office. Following their retirement from the Mission, as part of the church staff, she and Howard ministered to the seniors group of Trinity Temple Assembly of God. She is still famous for her ability to plan and execute remarkable trips and adventures for the seniors. She also was active in all phases of Trinity's church life, especially the Womens' Ministry and the Faithbuilders Sunday School class, as well as the outreach of Trinity at Pine Manor Nursing Home and Valley Rescue Mission.
In 1986, she was chosen as a "Gracious Lady of Georgia"; in 2012 received the Rescuer's Award from the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions; and also served as a Pink Lady at St. Francis Hospital following her retirement from Valley Rescue Mission.
Frances Mott is survived by one daughter, Ann Mott Kirby and son-in-law Ben of Hamilton, GA; three sons, Howard H. Mott, Jr. and daughter-in-law Pam of Birmingham, AL; Gary S. Mott and daughter-in-law Cathy of Atlanta, GA; and Rev. Father David W.
