Frances Merritt Lee passed on January 16, 2019, at 85 years old, in her home, surrounded by her beloved family.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 18, 2019 at Parkhill Cemetery 4161 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Pastor Jimmy Little officiating according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Frances was born on January 9, 1934, in Charleston, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Clarence Merritt and Eva Gray Merritt. She served the Muscogee County School District faithfully from 1974 to 1994. She worked in the cafeteria at Allen Elementary and retired as a manager at Jordan High School. Frances was involved in the Teacher's Association and Food Service Association throughout her tenure in the Muscogee County School District. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross and a supporter of PAWS Humane. Frances was known for decorating extraordinary cakes for weddings, birthdays, and other special occasions. Those close to Frances will remember her in their hearts for her unparalleled style, compassion, and faith, as well as her unwavering love for her friends and family.

Frances was raised in the Christ Sanctified Church. She met and married her husband, Harry Owen Lee, Sr., in Atlanta, Georgia on May 5, 1954. Frances and Harry were married 64 years and seven months; they moved to Columbus shortly after the birth of their first child and lived in Muscogee County working and raising their family for more than 60 years.

Frances is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Clarence and Charles.


In addition to her loving husband, Frances is survived by two sons, H. Owen Lee and Charles Merritt Lee; and one granddaughter, Ashley Lee. Frances also leaves behind her loving companion and faithful service dog, Taffy Lee, a rescue from PAWS Humane.
