Frances Brown Himic, 91, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Columbus Hospice House, following a brief illness.
Funeral service will take place 11am on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907 with Pastor Judy Hay officiating. A private family entombment will be held at Meriwether Memory Gardens in Manchester, GA. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Himic was born June 29, 1922 in Manchester, GA daughter to the late John J. Brown and Mabel Collier Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Lt. Col. Steve P. Himic and sister Bernice Horton.
Mrs. Himic worked as a homemaker and volunteer. She was very passionate about butterflies and thoroughly enjoyed her 20-year service as a volunteer at the Callaway Gardens Butterfly Center. She was a very lively, energetic, and creative person, and also took pleasure in many hobbies over the years, including ceramics, stained glass, swimming, shopping, reading, gardening, various forms of aerobics, and even Wii Bowling. Another of her life's passions was travel, and Mrs. Himic relished the opportunity to travel the world as an Army wife, and especially loved her time living in Paris, France. She also loved the beach. She was an advocate of healthy eating, and also very well versed in the investment world and the stock market. But above all, Mrs. Himic was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who enjoyed spending time with her family and loved ones. She will be greatly missed by her family, as well as the many friends she leaves behind at Spring Harbor.
Survivors include son; Steve Himic and wife Lisa of Hoover, AL, daughter; Johanna H. Patrick and husband Kirk of Columbus, GA, two sisters; Virginia Jackson of Atlanta, GA, Johnette Thompson of LaGrange, GA, five grandchildren; one great grandchild named in her honor and a very large extended family.
