Fire Lt. (Ret.) Edmond (Horace) Jenkins, Jr. 78, of Columbus, Georgia died Thursday, February 10, 2022 at his residence.
Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 15, 2022 in the Chapel of Pines Mausoleum at Parkhill Cemetery with Columbus Fire and EMS Honors. The family will receive friends Monday, February 14, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Ga. 31907.
Lt. Jenkins was born September 13, 1943 in Columbus, Georgia son of the late Edmond H. Jenkins, Sr. and Ethel Johns Nix. Horace served in the National Guard and then began his career as a firefighter, then a dispatcher in the alarm station eventually moving to 911 dispatch. He later moved to Fire Prevention as a Fire Inspector then was an Arson Investigator where he retired after 35 years. After his retirement, Horace graduated from the Mandate School to become a Certified Peace Officer working several years as a reserve Deputy Sherriff for the Muscogee County Sheriff Department.
Horace was a former member of Eastwood Baptist Church enjoyed fishing and loved the Georgia Bulldogs Football Team.
Other than his parents, Horace was preceded in death by brother Wayne Jenkins.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shirley Cook Jenkins, children, Barry Jones and Reggie Jones both of Harris County, Georgia, sister; Ann Carver of Columbus, Georgia; brother, Joe Denson (Suzan) of Midland, Georgia and two grandchildren Kimberly Presley of Buena Vista, Georgia and Christopher Jones of Columbus, Georgia.
