Ferrin Wyatt Eiland, 89, of Columbus, GA died Sunday January 5, 2014 at Columbus Hospice House.
A private burial will be held at Andersonville National Cemetery at a later date according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Eiland was born June 16, 1924 in Andalusia, AL son of the late Milton Eiland and Rena Wyatt Eiland. He was an infantryman in the United States Army. He was a POW, a member of American Legion, and DAV (Disabled Veterans). He was a Sanitarian for the Columbus Health Department.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by Elmer Eiland, JC Eiland, Ruth Bane, Evelyn Shields, James Eiland, and Athan Eiland.
Survivors include his wife; Verna Stinson Eiland of Columbus, GA, sons; Ferrin W. Eiland, II (Tammy) of Shalama, FL, Marcus S. Eiland (Connie) of Columbus, GA, Benjamin S. Eiland (Felecia) of Columbus, GA, brother; Curtis M. Eiland (Peggy) of Blue Springs, AL, sister; Gertrude Graham of Hunstville, AL, 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Ex-Prisoners of War, P.O. Box 3140 Chesapeake, VA 23327-3140.
