Evelyn Day Powers, 90, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 in Dallas, TX.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, December 31, 2012 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Nancy Powers officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Evelyn Powers was born January 5, 1922 in Columbus, GA daughter of the late John Madison Day and Jesse Lee Hobby Day. She was in the first graduating class of Jordan Vocational High School in 1937. She retired after 20 years working for Dr. Brewer and was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Frank Powers, brothers, James Floyd Day, Johnny L. Day and Jack Day, and her sister, Mildred Day Patterson.
Survivors include her children, Norman Frank Powers (Nancy), Nancy Powers Watson (Chuck) and Mary Anne Powers Simmons (Larry), sisters, Opal Day Bartlett, Betty Day Register (Ret. Lt. General Ben Register) and Shirley Day Lane, grandchildren, Rebecca Powers Gregory, Brad Powers, Paige Powers Saylor (Joe), Matthew Raymond Byrd, Michael Benjamin Byrd (Kathie), Kylie Byrd, Daniel Stuart Simmons, James Madison Simmons (Malena) and Stephanie Powers, eight great grandchildren, and lots of nieces and nephews.
