Evelyn Nell Statham Howell, 101, of Columbus, GA went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 14, 2015 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mark Chandler officiating. The following will serve as Honorary Pallbearers: Steve Teal, Brandon Beach, Ron Scott, Jimmy Barlow, David Brokamp, and Brad Clarke. A private family interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Howell was born July 28, 1914 in Phenix City, AL daughter of the late William P. Statham and Eva Mae Noble Statham. She lived in Columbus most of life and graduated from Old Industrial High School in Columbus, GA. In her early years, Mrs. Howell was a playground director and later worked at JC Penney in the Drapery department for many years retiring in 1976. Mrs. Howell was also a wonderful homemaker.
She loved cooking and the outdoors where she spent most of her time. Her porch was her favorite place to be. Mrs. Howell was a long time member of Rose Hill Baptist Church where she had many Christian friends.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She was a caregiver for her blind sister and also her brother for two years until their death. She loved all of her family with all her heart and will be greatly missed.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Lynn Howell, brothers, Harold C. Statham and Durwood Statham, and sisters, Willie Mae Statham and Juliette Statham.
Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Teal of Columbus, GA, granddaughter, Sharon Scott (Ron) of Phenix City, AL, grandson, Steve Teal (Candy) of Columbus, GA, great grandson, Brandon Beach (Jessica) of Panama City Beach, FL, three great great grandchildren, Nathan, Braydon and Connor, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at Gentiva Hospice for all of the home visits, and also extend thanks to Care Matters for their loving and compassionate caregivers. A special thanks to Thelma, Angela, and Kim for the love you showed to our Nana.
