Eunice Daphine Hawley Whiten, born August 28th, 1933 in Dunn, North Carolina, went to be with Jesus on Memorial Day, May 27th, 2024 in Columbus, Georgia.
Mrs. Whiten is survived by her three children, Debra Fuller of Columbus, GA; Oliver Frank Whiten Jr. of Houston, TX; and Jeffrey Whiten (Sandi) of Columbus, GA, as well as seven grandchildren: Shawn Hardy (Miranda), Shannon Hardy, Erica Whiten, Callie Fogarty (Jon), Caitlin Whiten, Stephen Whiten, and Macie Whiten. Mrs. Whiten also leaves behind five great-grandchildren, Madison Jones, Tyler Jones, Luke Hardy, Layla Fogarty, and Myles Fogarty, as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Asher and Jett. She also leaves behind a special sister-in-law, Clara Hawley of Wickliffe, OH.
Mrs. Whiten was preceded in death by her husband Oliver Frank Whiten Sr., parents George and Rosa Hawley, brother George "Buddy" Hawley, sister Eva Mae Hardison, and brother-in-law Wallace Hardison.
Mrs. Whiten was a faithful Christian woman and proud Army wife and mom.Mrs. Whiten retired from Sears after 20 years as an auditing department manager. She worked at the Yogurt Shoppe for about five years with Joyce Mickle.An active member of North Highland and Trinity Temple churches, her most recent church home was Rosehill Baptist Church. Mrs. Whiten was a devoted caregiver to many friends and neighbors, including a World War II veteran. She raised her own children and helped raise her grandchildren as well. Family members recount how giving she was, from taking her grandchildren to school each day to cooking Sunday dinners for any family member who wished to join her. Helping and giving to others brought her immense joy. She was a cancer survivor who inspired others with her resilience and unwavering faith. Her strength and determination were evident in her ability to face adversity with grace and courage, which left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Her journey through illness and recovery was a testament to her deep faith and inner strength, inspiring countless individuals to find hope and strength in their own struggles.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Whiten’s service are Shawn Hardy, Luke Hardy, Tyler Jones, Jeff Whiten, Stephen Whiten, Larry Cummings Jr., and Dusty Cummings.
The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Legacy Reserve Memory Care and Columbus Hospice for taking such good care of her.
Mrs. Whiten also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, as well as many friends and neighbors who all loved her dearly.
