MSG Ret. Eugene Ralph "Gene" Shaw, 74, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Friday, March 19, 2010 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend David Kelley and Reverend Phillip L. Shoemaker officiating. A private interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service according to McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
MSG Shaw was born March 8, 1936 in Caribou, ME son of the late Thelma Lovely Shaw and Ralph H. Shaw. He was a long time resident of Columbus. He was a former member of Oates Avenue Baptist Church where he was in the Reese Sunday School Class. He retired in 1976 after twenty two years in the Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired again in 1997 after teaching at Spencer High School for twenty years. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Royal T. Shaw and his sister, Susan Achorn.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Ross Shaw of Columbus, GA, two sons, Ken Shaw and Steven Shaw (Rhonda) all of Columbus, GA, two sisters, Florence Preble of Springfield, ME and Maxine Higgins of Fairfield, ME, one brother, Arnold Shaw of Carlisle, PA, five grandchildren, Kevin Shaw, Stephanie Haberkorn (Steve), Candace Shaw, Trevor Shaw and Casey Shaw, and four great grandchildren, Jakob Tyler Shaw, Brynn Haberkorn, Jacob Lee Shaw, and Avery Haberkorn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Bus Ministry at Beallwood Baptist Church 4650 Veterans Parkway Columbus, GA 31904.
