TSgt (Ret.) Eugene "Gene" William James, 78, of Columbus, GA died Friday, September 9, 2016 at Emory University Hospital.
Funeral Services with Full Military Honors will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Morningside Baptist Church with Rev. Thad Smith and Rev. Donald King officiating. A Private Interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
TSgt (Ret.) James was born December 25, 1937 in Cullman, AL, son of the late Newberry James and Verlie Wren James. He served over 20 years in the Air Force (SAC) and 21 years in Civil Service as an Electrician. Following his service, TSgt (Ret.) James was Morningside Baptist Church's Maintenance Supervisor for 14 years. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Yates.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Ann Whitehead James of Columbus, GA; daughters, Abigail Helms (Craig) of Columbus, GA, Karen Lynn James of Statesboro, GA, Stephanie Ann Fuerte (Paul) of Cataula, GA; sister, Gladys Lindstrom (Carl) of Cullman, AL; brother, Ernest James (Jean) of Cullman, AL; and 2 grandchildren, Madison Leigh Fuerte and Anthony James Fuerte both of Cataula, GA.
