Eugene Rolland Edwards

Eugene  "Gene" Rolland Edwards, 86, of Columbus, GA died Saturday, March 26, 2022 at his residence.

A memorial service will be held 2:30 PM Saturday, April 2, 2022 Columbus First Seventh Day Adventist Church, 7880 Schomburg Rd. Columbus, GA with Pastor Jeff Freeman officiating The family will receive friends following the service at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Born on January 26, 1936,in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was the son of the late Claude Glenn Edwards and Ethel Rogers Edwards.  Gene, as he was known by his family, was the youngest of 6 children.  Gene learned the value of hard work being raised on a farm.  He married Virginia Nadine Edwards on June 8, 1959, in Calhoun, Georgia.  During his life, they moved to several states and settled in Hendersonville, North Carolina where he started his family of raising 2 daughters.

During his career, he worked and retired from Gerber, Inc., and began a 2nd career after moving to Lenoir City, Tennessee in 1997, a career in which he loved; driving school buses for Lenoir City, Tennessee for an additional 10 years.

Gene was preceded in death by his siblings; Clarence Ray Edwards, 1977, Wilma Dahan Edwards Blankenship, 1995, Alvis Cecil Edwards, 1997, Bertha Marcella Edwards Day, 2001, Phyllis Coriene Edwards Hanlin, 2013.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Virginia Nadine Cantrell Edwards.  His 2 children are; Deborah Edwards Pressley Gordon (Steve) of South Carolina and Cathy Lynn Edwards Munson (Rodney) of Fortson, Georgia. His 4 Grandchildren are; Aaron Pressley (Cori) of Woodstock, Georgia.  Danyelle Munson of Fortson, Georgia. Brandon Munson (Ava) of Lawton, Oklahoma, Zachary Munson of Fortson, Georgia. His 3 Great-grandchildren; are Grayson Pressley, Neely Pressley, and Rylee Plott. Gene is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated to the piano fund of the Columbus Seventh-day Adventist Church in Eugene’s honor.
