Elsie Christina Hiss Blosser Mace, 93, of Columbus, GA died Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Gentiva Hospice.
A Graveside Service will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Mace was born October 5, 1921 in Barberton Ohio, where her parents owned and operated the Hiss Bakery serving the local area. She was the daughter of the late Reinhard and Louise Hiss.
Elsie married Verne Blosser and had two children: Rita and Pamela. Verne passed away early in their marriage.
Elsie met and married Cecil W. Mace, together they had four children: Nancy, Martha, Charles, and Christine.
Elsie and Cecil raised all six children while Cecil served 38 years in the US Army.
Elsie was proud to be an Army wife and served 50 years as a Volunteer for the Red Cross at Hospitals on the military bases where they were stationed. She served as a volunteer until she was in her 80's. Her proudest day as a volunteer was when on her retirement day she was presented with a medal for volunteer work at Martin Army Hospital by the Commanding General. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars - Columbus Chapter #261.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil W. Mace; brothers, Rienhard, Edwin and Charles Hiss; sisters, Ruth Boss and Louise Reinoehl; daughters, Rita Blosser Anderson and Pamela Blosser Turner.
Survivors include her sister, Edna Jones; daughters, Nancy Rosel (Felix) of San Antonio, TX, Martha Moulton (Tracy) of Blakely, GA, Christine Trimback (Juston) of Pittsview, AL; a son , Charles Mace (Abigail) of Killeen, TX; son-in-laws, Jim Anderson and Cullen W. Turner, both of Ft. Worth, TX; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation for the excellent care in her final days at St. Francis Hospital and Gentiva Hospice.
