Elmo "Corky" Unrein, peacefully passed away at the Medical Center on June 19, 2012.
He was born 29 November 1921 in Schoenchen, Kansas, the second of four sons, to the late Robert and Rosie Unrein. He was raised and farmed with brothers, Edwin, Ralph and Wilfred in Sterling, Colorado. He enlisted in the US Navy during WWII, served in Asiatic Pacific campaigns against the Japanese on the USS Texas and European African campaigns against the Germans on the USS Vincennes. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he married the late Frieda Luft. Where they started their family of six children while farming in Sterling, Colorado. In 1963 he relocated to Anchorage, Alaska with eldest son, Gordon. Where he was a member of and worked out of Local 302 Teamsters Union, for 45 years as a heavy equipment operator and oil derek roughneck.
Due to his health, he relocated to Columbus, Georgia where he lived the last seven years with son, Gordon (Ellie) Unrein and family.
He is survived by youngest brother Wilfred (Shirley) Unrein of Sterling, Colorado, five children; Gordon (Ellie) Unrein of Columbus, Howard (Edith) Unrein of Colorado and Kenneth Unrein of Colorado, Wendy (Lee) Williams-Anderson of Texas and Shari (Rodney) Cagle of Colorado, fourteen Grandchildren and ten Great Grandchildren. He will be loved and missed by his family and many, many friends acquired in his life.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, 23 June at 1000 am in the St. Anne Catholic Church Chapel, 2000 Kay Circle, Columbus GA 31907. Family requests no flowers will be needed or accepted at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
