Ella Ruth Knittle Shoemaker

Ella Ruth Knittle Shoemaker 71 of Columbus, Ga. died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Columbus Hospice House.
A Celebration of Life Service with visitation will be held 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Ms. Shoemaker's home 3426 Pontiac Drive Columbus, Georgia 31907 according to McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus.
Ms. Shoemaker was born December 07, 1943 in Bloomsburg, PA. daughter of the late Chester Calvin and Edith Eifert Knittle. Ella (Ellie) graduated from Bloomsburg High School, received a Bachelor's degree in education from Bloomsburg State College in 1969 and received a masters degree in Art Therapy from Marywood University in Scranton, PA in 1995. She worked for many years as an Art Therapist and counselor, opening her own business and improving the lives of many children and families. Ellie was proud of her role in raising her children and grandchildren and cherished her many friendships. Ellie was a devoted recycler and an avid organic gardener. Neighbors would routinely be seen walking, sitting in and admiring her extensive gardens and landscaping. Ellie was an accomplished artist and constructed a studio in her retirement. Her wide variety of artwork is sought by many. Ellie had an amazingly endless capacity for empathy and love. She was a beloved friend, mother of three, wife, sister, aunt and grandmother. She prized family and friendship and was relentless in her pursuit of happiness for her family. She taught us to work, to love and to be faithful to ourselves, each other and God. She will always missed and adored.
Other than her parents, Ms. Shoemaker was preceded in death by her sister Patricia (Sissy) Ann Knittle.
Survivors include two sons; James Shoemaker of Columbus, GA., Shawn Eric Shoemaker of Benton, PA., one daughter; Deanna Shoemaker of Luthersville, GA., one brother; Chester Knittle of Light Street, PA. and two grandchildren Danielle Rodriguez of Morton, PA. and Khalil Rodriguez of Millville, PA.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Disabled Veterans Association Muscogee Chapter #7 P.O. Box 3708 Columbus, Ga. 31903.
