Elizabeth Stephens, 90, of Columbus, GA passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015 after a short illness.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Wynnton United Methodist Church 2412 Wynnton Rd. Columbus, GA with Dr. Frank Parr and Reverend J. Grantham officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Stephens was born on March 21, 1925 in Bibb City to the late Henry and Corene Judah Andrews. While she was a young child, she moved back to her family's home in the Ewell Community near Ozark, Alabama. There she grew up during the Great Depression.
In 1946, Elizabeth married Johnnie J. Stephens shortly after he returned from World War II. They moved to Columbus in 1955.
Mrs. Stephens was a member of Wynnton United Methodist Church and the Cofer-Friendship Sunday School Class. She was also active in the Prime Timers at the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Donald Stephens, and a brother, Dexter Andrews.
She is survived by her son, Michael Stephens and his wife, Linda, of Columbus, GA, daughter-in-law, Lisa Stephens of Fortson, GA, grandchildren, Samuel Stephens of Athens, GA, Brent Stephens and his wife, Lori, of Statesboro, GA, and Rachel Stephens of New York, NY, great granddaughter, Macy Anna Stephens of Statesboro, GA and a sister, Gladys Pitts of Phenix City, AL, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Those so desiring may make memorial contributions to Wynnton United Methodist Church, The ALS Center at Emory Hospital, The American Diabetes Association, or the Columbus Hospice House.
