Elizabeth Lee "Libba" Neal,71, a resident of Midland, GA, died Friday, September 27, 2013 at her residence.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at St. Luke United Methodist Church of Columbus with Bishop Benjamin Michael Watson, Reverend Robert Beckum, and Doctor Hal Brady officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the St. Luke United Methodist Church sanctuary. A private graveside service will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. McMullen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Neal was born October 1, 1941 in Dothan, AL, daughter of the late Alto Velo Lee III and Rosa Margaret Brooks Lee. She was valedictorian, Homecoming Queen, and a majorette at Dothan High School, and President of the Methodist Youth Fellowship at Dothan First United Methodist Church. She was a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and has several swim meet records still standing from the 1950's. After one year at Agnes Scott College, Mrs. Neal received a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education Biology and English from the University of Alabama, where she became a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. While at the University of Alabama, Mrs. Neal was a Corolla Beauty, Sweetheart of Theta Chi, Bama Belle, and finalist for Homecoming Queen.
Mrs. Neal lived all her adult life in Columbus, GA, after marrying Heidt Fortson Neal III on May 4, 1963. Mrs. Neal was an active member of the St. Luke United Methodist Church of Columbus, GA. She also served on the Administrative Board and Staff/Parrish Relations Committee for many years. She was President of the NOW Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women Circle #9.
She was President of Della Robia Garden Club, President of St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary, Regent of Oglethorpe Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, President of Hardaway High School PTA, Room Mother and Cheerleader Mother always, a member of Junior League of Columbus, Colonial Dames, Kappa Delta Alumnae Association of Columbus, GA, Russell-Muscogee Counties Alumni Chapter and National Alumni Association of the University of Alabama.
Surviving relatives include her husband of 50 years, Heidt Fortson Neal III, two daughters, Lee Neal Bush and husband, Lane, Bainbridge, GA; Margaret (Margie) Neal Norman and husband, Steve, Columbus, GA; six grandchildren, Sarah Margaret Bush, Kay Elizabeth Bush, Taylor Lane Bush, Steven Rae Norman III, Heidt Neal Norman, and Elizabeth (Bebe) Patricia Norman; a brother, William (Bill) Lovard Lee III and wife, Lucy (Sis), Dothan, AL; and a sister, Margaret Lee Watson and husband, Mike, Atlanta, GA.
