Elizabeth Shehane Mckemie

Elizabeth Shehane McKemie, known fondly as Liz to her friends and family, passed away on October 28,2024, in Columbus, GA.

A Celebration of life service will be held 3:00 PM Friday, November 01, 2024 at Evangel Church with Rev. Paul Thomas, Rev. Mike McBride and Rev. Bud Rupel officiating. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM Friday at the church.

Liz was born April 30, 1946 in Dothan, AL. Liz was married to G. Watson McKemie, Jr., her husband of 60 years and mother to her daughters, Stacey Carlisle (Greg), and Cody Morgan (Clark). She was known as Nana to her grandchildren, Turner Carlisle (Kaylyn), Harris Carlisle, Evan Papay, Savannah Morgan, and Nick Morgan.

She is also survived by her brother, Ronnie Shehane, and preceded in death by her parents Diris Harris Shehane and Emlis B. Shehane, and brother, George Shehane (Nancy).

As a dental office administrator, Liz dedicated 38 years to the practices of Dr. Robert Smith, Dr. Ed Fernandez Jr. and Dr. John Sigman.

Liz was an avid gardener, finding joy in the beauty of flowers and spending hours each day tending to her home and impressive garden.

Above all, faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She was saved at the age of 10 and rededicated her life to the Lord in May 1973. From that time on she felt called, alongside Watson, to serve the members of Evangel Temple and others along the way. Even during her final days she shared love and kindness to those caring for her.

Liz's life was a testament to the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the power of faith. Her legacy endures in the lives of those she touched, and the beauty she created in her gardens that was shared with many through the years.
