Elizabeth Dugan Martin died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Columbus Hospice House enfolded in the love of her family.
A Celebration of her life will be held 2PM Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Epworth United Methodist Church 2400 Devonshire Dr. Columbus, GA 31904. Dr. Associate Pastor Tommy Mayton will deliver the eulogy.
She was born August 14, 1925 in Greenwood, SC daughter of the late Nanelle Hitch Dugan and Louis Ayers Dugan. After the death of her father in her childhood, she was step-fathered by Charles Fletcher Cummings and was given the precious gift of sisterhood with the arrival of his daughter, Catherine. Elizabeth attended Jordan High School while working afternoons. She and her mother were active in the USO, often bringing soldiers home for home-cooked meals. Mrs. Martin was secretary to the Chief, Fire Prevention and Training of the Columbus Fire Department.
She was an avid nature lover, a member of Lynhaven Garden Club, Audubon Society and loved walking the Pine Mountain Trail, where her ashes, along with those of her dear husband, will be scattered.
Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Martin, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, James and infant, Robert Dugan.
Mrs. Martin is survived by her sons, Chuck Martin, who was her caregiver, and Hal Martin of Hamilton, GA and her granddaughter, Alyson â
