Elizabeth "Bette" Christopher Long, 87, of Cataula, GA passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Chaplain Don McKelevy officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
She was born on February 16, 1929 in Kokomo, IN daughter of Lonnie and Allie Strange Christopher. On December 21, 1946 she married Carl L. Long. She worked for several Kokomo businesses before moving to Jupiter, FL in 1959 where she was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. In 1967, she was employed by Lighthouse Gallery and School of Art for 15 years, the last seven years as Administrative Director. She retired in 1982 and in 1985, the family moved to Columbus, GA.
Elizabeth loved to travel and traveled to Europe on several occasions, usually with her daughter, Joni. They visited Paris (her favorite city) several times. She traveled also to many American and Canadian cities, several cities in Mexico and the Bahamas with her husband, Carl. She loved dogs and cats and all of God's creatures. She loved flowers, cooking, decorating and collecting vintage cups and saucers.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard "Rick" Long, brother, Robert Christopher and sister, Pauline Klemme.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Carl L. Long, son, Mark Allen Long and his wife, Marti of West Point Lake, GA, Joni Marie Cotton and her husband, Joseph of Fortson, GA, and sister, Mary Emry and her husband, Bob of Diamondhead, MS, and sister, Ruth Sherrow of Kokomo, IN, four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
