Elizabeth "Betty" Lyon Griffith, 89 of Columbus died Sunday May 10, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A. M. Thursday, May 14, 2015 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Edward Kvietkus and Chuck Griffith officiating. Interment will be in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5 P. M. to 7 P. M. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Griffith was born September 2, 1925 in Marietta, GA daughter of the late William Frank and Cleo Ray Lyon. She worked at Tom's Foods in the Accounting Department for over 40 years and retired in 1985 as the Treasurer of Tom's Foods. After retirement, she enjoyed cruises with her Tom's Quarter Century friends, spending time with her family and being involved in her church as well as senior activities at other churches and recreation centers in Columbus. Mrs. Griffith loved her family and looked forward each and every Sunday to dinners that she prepared up until the last few years. She never knew how many family members would come but she would feed sometimes 15 plus and there was always enough. All this before she worshiped at Rose Hill as well as taking care of little ones in the nursery. Her 30 plus years of tradition has been carried on by her family as they have taken up preparing the meals that she could not. Her home for the past two years was Covenant Woods and was a special part of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her friends there and participating in her favorite activity, BINGO.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Tom Turner Griffith, siblings, Barbara Lyon Walker, Francis Lyon Brinson and William Lyon.
Survivors include her children Gail Griffith Stafford (John), Ginger Griffith Griffin (Wayne) and Gil Turner Griffith (Dawn); grandchildren, Rodney Faircloth (Michele) Tracie Stafford (Dana Choate), Phillip Stafford and Zachery Griffith (Kaitlynn); great grandchildren, Brogan, Griffith, Ragan and Riley Faircloth; Turner and Freeman Griffith; Charles Lyon (Barbara) and Richard Lyon (Peggy).
Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Rosehill Baptist Church or Covenant Woods Activity Fund.
