Elizabeth King Burke, 88, of Phenix City, AL died Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at her home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Pastor Robb Goodman officiating. A private family interment will be held at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Burke was born August 20, 1929 in Banks, AL daughter of the late James Ray King and Lula Parks King. She worked at Fieldcrest Mills in the plant office and later owned the first Christian bookstore in Phenix City in the 70's, then went to work at SouthTrust Bank where she retired from. Mrs. Burke was also a member of Summerville Baptist Church since 1963.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 56 years, J. Wayne Ellis and her second husband of 9 years, John Burke.
Survivors include her son, Kenneth Ellis and wife, Pamela Whitehead Ellis, of Phenix City, AL, step-daughter, Michelle Bentfeld and husband, Stan Plymel of Talbotton, GA, sister, Ouida Baker and husband, James, of Phenix City, AL, brother, Charles King and wife, Gerelda of Phenix City, AL, brother-in-law, Fred Haines of Panama City, FL, grandchildren, Rusty Watson and wife, Tiffany, Melodie Tanner and husband, Matt Wheeler, great grandchildren, Braydon Watson, Harper Grace Watson, Madison Smith, Hayley Roche and Noble Wheeler, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Summerville Baptist Church Audio/Visual Fund 3500 Summerville Rd. Phenix City, AL 36867 or to the Alzheimer's Association of Columbus 5156 River Rd. M Columbus, GA 31904.
