Eleanor Mabel Moody, 100, of Columbus, GA peacefully passed away at her home at Spring Harbor on Sunday February 19, 2017. She left to join her beloved husband, Gordon.
Eleanor had a long, successful, and interesting life. She graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit in 1938 and went on to a successful teaching career, while at the same time raising her three daughters at a time when working mothers were very unusual. With the love and support of her husband, a WWII veteran, their survivors have carried on with a love of education, horticulture, words, reading and travel. Eleanor especially loved playing Scrabble and it would be difficult to find a person who could beat her!
Eleanor and Gordon moved to Columbus from their retirement home in Florida in 2004, where they could be closer to family. After becoming widowed in 2005, Eleanor moved to Spring Harbor, where she lived in independent living until just last summer. A highlight of her life was living to observe her 100th birthday last August 20th. Had it not been for the wonderful care, friendship, and love she received from Spring Harbor and Columbus Hospice she may not have achieved that milestone. Columbus Hospice provided her with comfort and kindness in the last couple months of her life.
Eleanor is predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Gordon B. Moody.
Survivors include her three daughters: Karen Chase and her husband David Bellizi of Leland, MI; Gail Rose; and Betsy Papak and her husband Bob of Columbus, GA. She is also survived by one grandson, Jason Clark and wife, Inga; two granddaughters: Kristin Hammock and husband, Jeff; and Robin Allison and husband, Scott. Her six great-grandchildren were her pride and joy: Cole and Chase Hammock, Galina and Kirin Clark, and Liliana and Jake Allison.
Eleanor's family wishes to thank everyone at Spring Harbor and Columbus Hospice for the kind and generous care Eleanor received. Donations may be made in Eleanor's memory to the Employee Fund at Spring Harbor, 100 Spring Harbor Dr, Columbus, GA 31904 or Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909.
