Elbert C. "Bert" Cameron, 88, of Columbus, GA died Friday, February 14, 2014 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Scott Tucker, Reverend Aimee Baxter and Reverend James E. Houseal officiating. Interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from 12:00 Noon - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Cameron was born February 14, 1926 in Hialeah, FL, son of the late Clyde Christphor Cameron and Addie Coleman Cameron. He served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, serving in Korean War and Vietnam War. He was awarded numerous awards and certificates, including the National Defense Service Medal (1st OLC), Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Medal W60 Device and the Army Commendation Medal. He later retired from Civil Service as Production Controller. Mr. Cameron was a former member of Lifeline Ministries, Inc., Rutledge Prison Ministry, Muscogee County Jail Ministry and was a 32 Degree Mason. He was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, C. J. Cameron.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lois Lynes Cameron of Columbus, GA; daughters, Linda C. Englebert (Steve) of Cusseta, GA, Brenda C. Bowen (Ken) of Columbus, GA and Lisa Dryden (Bob) of Midland, GA; brother, David (Bull) Cameron (Dot) of Jesup, GA; sisters, Christine (Chris) Cameron Mosley of Jesup, GA, Collen (Co) Cameron Pye (Edward) of Odum, GA and Vivian (Tea) Cameron Edmondson (David) of Inman, SC; grandchildren, Jeremy Dryden (Nikki), Kimberly Haase (Brad), Mindy Green (Lee), Kelly English (Jeff), Laura Shaw (James), Bethany Deason (Justin), and Jarrod Bowen (Sheree); great grandchildren, Hayden Green, Brycen Deason, Jarrod Bowen, Jr, Skylar Bowen, Kayleigh Haase and Alex Haase .
The family would like to thank Columbus Hospice House for the excellent care he received.
