Edward "Big Ed" Watson, a beloved husband, father, and friend, left this world on April 21, 2025, at Piedmont Midtown in Columbus, GA. Born on December 7, 1943, in Columbus, Georgia, Edward continued to leave an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 26, 2025 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. A private internment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery.

A gentle giant, Edward devoted 41 years of his life to his career as a plate maker for Lithokrome. Throughout his tenure, he contributed to the creation of many cherished Hallmark Greeting cards, sharing joy and connection with countless families. His professional dedication was matched only by the devotion he showed to his own family. Edward possessed a big heart and was celebrated as a great caregiver and a wonderful provider, always putting the needs of his loved ones first.

Education was also important to Edward; he graduated from Jordan High School, laying the foundation for his impressive work ethic and caring spirit. Hardworking and steadfast, he instilled these values in his children, Mark, Tim, and Tina. Family gatherings were always a special occasion, with Edward especially cherishing the time spent together during the holidays.

An avid sports fan, Edward was a devoted supporter of the Georgia Bulldogs, the Falcons, and the Braves. He found joy in discussing games and sharing his love of sports with family and friends, especially with his brother Hoyt. Edward also had a passion for the beach, enjoying many trips filled with laughter and love, creating lasting memories under the sun.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 21 years, Libby Watson, who knew the warmth and comfort of Edward's unwavering support. Their bond was a testament to love, partnership, and mutual respect.

In addition to his wife, Edward is survived by his sons, Mark and Tim (Cayce) Watson, his daughter, Tina (Richard) Grantham, and his bonus daughter, Brae (Ben) Fannon. Each of them carries a piece of his spirit, a reminder of his kindness and strength.

He was also blessed with a large and loving extended family, who affectionately referred to him as Poppie, including grandsons TJ (Ashley), Logan (Tiffany), Kyle (Kelly), Brandon, Trent, Ryan, Braeden, and Bryson, granddaughters Meagan and Bryn (Austin), and great-grandchildren Miller and Knox. Each one of them holds countless memories of love, laughter, and the kindness that Poppie so freely gave.

Edward was preceded in death by his father, Ponnie B Watson, his mother, Jessie Mae Fillingim, his late wife of 38 years, Eluria Watson—the mother of his children—and his brother, Hoyt Watson. Their memories will forever be cherished in the legacy he leaves behind.

As he approached the end of his life, Edward expressed the sentiment that the Good Lord was ready for him. Though his physical presence may be gone, his spirit and the love he poured into every moment will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who loved him.
