Edward “Butch” Roy Parker

Edward “Butch” Roy Parker, 81 passed away Saturday September 7, 2024 at Piedmont Midtown Medical Center after a long illness, with his loving wife by his side.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 Sunday, September 15, 2024 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Matthew Stephens officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA.

Butch as he was lovingly known by his family and friends was born November 16, 1942 in Woodbury, New Jersey to the late Edward James Parker and Bertha Amelia Beeler Parker. He is an Army veteran having served in Korea in the 60’s. He retired from Insul-Con, Inc, after many years as a commercial insulator. Other than his wife, JoAnne, their son, and grandchildren, the love of his life from the time he could ride was being on his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. When they were dating, he and JoAnne would take rides on his motorcycle to wherever the road might take them. After retirement, he would ride his motorcycle to Hardees every morning to meet his pals for coffee and a biscuit.

He was an avid baseball and softball fan. He played on his church’s softball team in the 80’s and he enjoyed watching his son, and grandsons play little league and his granddaughter play fast-pitch softball. He also enjoyed watching the Braves and Phillies professional teams.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, JoAnne Parker of Columbus, GA, son: Edward “Ed” Parker also of Columbus, GA. Brother: Harry Parker (Ruthanne) of National Park, NJ, grandchildren, Megan Parker of Athens, GA. Eric Parker of Pomona, CA, Ben Parker (Dorothy) of Columbus, GA, great-grandchild, Elizabeth “Isa” Parker also of Columbus, GA.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by sixteen of his siblings.
