Edward B. Newman, 85, of Columbus, GA, died Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Midtown Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Willie Martin officiating. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Newman was born May 16, 1932 in Phenix City, AL, son of the late Shelby Newman and Susie Jarrell Edwards. He was a retired local truck driver for Ryder Trucking Company with 32 years of service and was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Newman.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Velva Newman of Columbus, GA; daughters, Dee Mitchell (Tony) of Midland, GA and Rae Knighton (Ronnie) of Columbus, GA; sister, Foy Gordon of Columbus, GA; 3 grandchildren, Emily Kilcrease (Adam) of Phenix City, AL, Brittany Mitchell and Lauren Mitchell and two great-grandchildren, Adalyn Kilcrease and Khloe Gaddy.
Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial contributions to First Free Will Baptist Church, www.firstfreewillofcolumbus.com
